Rick Santorum has gone beyond amusing. He is now approaching dangerous. He’s even scaring the right-wing of the Republican party and that really takes some doing. Comparisons to the Ayatollahs of Iran is inevitable.
If the Christian right is happy to have a crusader on their side I would like to suggest they think this through. I realize that’s asking a lot of people who do a lot of blind following. But please consider how you would feel if the next president was proselytizing for Islam, or Wicca or worst yet Atheism!
Santorumanity: Rick Santorum’s own view of Christianity

Our country was founded by people who were fleeing England because they chose not to follow a state religion. Santorum’s views and politics will make Christianity our new state religion. Not just any Christianity but Santorumanity, Rick’s view of Christianity. There are too many versions of Christianity to count in this country and each thinks it’s “THE ONE”. Rick Santorum is sure that his is the right one. When he has the ability to sway secular laws to enforce religious views, your flavor of Christianity might not win. Sound familiar? That’s how theocracies work.
Why do the partys put up so many weird idiots to run for President, its been going on for years. They need ” real ” down to earth people to run, with no ties to companies or banks etc.
Harry: It’s only the rich weirdos who will put up with all the crap. The Republicans had one good candidate, John Huntsman, but he just wasn’t weird enough. Americans like their politics very simplistic. So they get simpletons for candidates.
Simpletons, thats the word 😆
What kills me is how he and others of his ilk like to say that Obama is destroying the Constitution, then claims that one of the basic tenets, separation of church and state, makes him want to puke. Give me a break!!
Rick reads the Constitution like he reads the Bible. Cafeteria style. He just takes little pieces out where he likes them.
What I don’t get is why Ron Paul isn’t getting anywhere…he’s my favorite…seriously.
Agreed Rebekah. Even if you didn’t agree with Ron Paul, at least he is an intelligent and serious person. Unlike the others, he isn’t a pandering cartoon character.
Well, he is kind of like Mighty Mouse…just kidding. I like how he doesn’t really care about the bs that the other candidates seem consumed with.
I would say: “What are his chances of winning?” But I’m afraid to ask that question.
That’s what I said about G W Bush. Look what chaos that caused.
Why do we keep worrying about these crazy Republican candidates? Obama’s going to win a second term . . . . isn’t he?
Patti, I think Obama will win if we don’t get complacent. But it’s disappointing that there is no intelligent opposition. Just posturing, self-interest, and slogans.
Alan, it’s what I tell myself all the time when I find myself in the grips of despair at the quality of these candidates. You are so right about the complacency issue!
I live in Egypt and the similarities between his views and islamists are ever striking.
I wish more people realized that. I look to your generation to save us. My generation has failed miserably. (BTW: You have a great blog!)
Thanks for visiting! Give me a few months and I’ll get my generation rounded up.
Santorum continues to be seriously outspent by Mitt Romney and isn’t going to have anything at all near to Romneys excellent group.
But what he lacks in money he makes up for in crazy ideas…
Sensible people don’t think Santorum will win, but then all voters are not sensible people.
Well Gramma, if all the voters were sensible, we never would have heard of Santorum or Gingrich.
True.
Alan, you may have the biggest & strongest and every other -est country in the world.. But what we have in India is the largest democracy in the world. And that places me in a credible enough position to pontificate 🙂
My opinion – politicians will say everything that will garner them votes. But what they actually will do after reaching office – no one knows that except themselves. And I’m sure that a lot of Americans know this too – though I don’t know why they don’t speak about it…
